A First Look: The Inspiration Behind Our AW27 Collection

At Stephen Walters, each season begins by revisiting where we’ve been, drawing on the concepts that continue to inspire us. Often, it’s the simplest starting point that sets everything in motion, and we find real joy in the process of seeing that initial spark evolve into a cohesive and considered collection of luxury fashion fabrics. For the AW27 collection, the interplay between heritage and innovation feels particularly exciting. Here’s your first look at what’s to come…

Familiar Foundations, Fresh Perspectives

This AW27 Collection evolves from the established apparel qualities our customers know and trust. For AW27, we’ve taken a contemporary jacquard approach to classic design types, where timeless motifs are elevated through colour, texture and scale. Key qualities include:

Segar: Ideal for tailored silhouettes, our signature silk and Responsible Wool Sourced fibre blend is reimagined, introducing a series of classic stripes in playful colour combinations.

Hardy: A quality inspired by the loosely woven structures of artisanal craft, this season Hardy is bigger and bolder than before, in a confident gun check and a colourful offset houndstooth.

Cecil: Compactly structured with a cool cotton handle, Cecil is perfect for contemporary daywear. We’ve enhanced the range with the introduction of a statement heathered check, and a versatile flecked semi plain.

These designs are grounded in tradition but designed for today, textiles that feel both reassuringly familiar and distinctly new within the AW27 Collection.

Archive Inspired : A Story Waiting to Be Rediscovered

Our working archive is more than a collection, it’s a living source of inspiration. Comprising of a carefully curated set of rare British and international books, the archive offers an insight into textile history. This season, it has played a key role in shaping the AW27 collection.

Introducing Ada, a new quality for AW27. Specifically inspired by the spirit of the archive, and the joy of uncovering a hidden treasure, this fabric is unique, characterful and with a story of it’s own. Two hand-painted artworks from the archive have been translated into this contemporary, bohemian-inspired jacquard. A cool cotton and wool blend, with a dry canvas handle, Ada has a relaxed elegance, ideal for unstructured jackets and dresses.

Think of Ada as a modern heirloom, timeless yet entirely fresh. We’re excited about this one!

Where Texture Takes the Lead : Surface Interest

We understand that for many brands, the imagery isn’t everything. In the AW27 Collection, we’re delighted to introduce three new constructions for womenswear that place surface and texture at the forefront.

Quilted: A sumptuous silk and wool with an undulating, quilted surface, perfect for structured jackets and sculptural dresses

Alba: A richly layered silk, wool and viscose blend, with a deconstructed three-dimensional feel. Created through the contrasting tensions of the different yarns, Alba brings a tactile, soft architectural quality to garments.

Veil: A light, ethereal proposition, this delicate mesh construction combines layered silk, viscose and lurex with a hand-drawn misregistered floral. Veil can be softened into a tonal palette, creating a subtle, layered effect through textural depth. If something bolder is in order, there’s a spicy orange colourway that we think is particularly striking

A Riot of Colour, and Rich Autumn Expression

Colour plays a defining role in AW27 Collection. Working in collaboration with Peclers and UKFT  we’ve developed a palette that feels both directional and wearable. You can expect seasonal rusts, mossy greens and warm, grounding neutrals.

This is where our luxurious silk shades really come into their own. The most distinctive example of this for AW27 is Florence, our jewel-toned jacquard moiré. Designed with occasionwear in mind, this season’s design is opulent, and unmistakably luxurious.

As always, versatility is key. Each design is presented in multiple colourways to showcase the variety of options we can weave. And if you’re looking for something more specific, we can weave your perfect colour to order, with a minimum of just 10 metres.
